EWG's 2015 dirty dozen report is out. EWG analyses for us the pesticide residue testing data on 48 popular fresh produce items released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Food and Drug Administration. And apples are still the dirtiest of the bunch for the 5th year in a row! That can't be good, right?
Why should you worry about heavily loaded pesticides food? According to multiple sources, pesticides have been linked to developmental problems in children, and may act as carcinogens or throw off the endocrine system. I personally carry this list around with me, and try to shop as much items in the Clean 15 list, if for some reason I can't find an organic or health store in the vicinity, or simply I can't afford organic.
Find below is the 2015 list for your convenience. You can also sign up at EWG and get a printable version of their list here.
Dirty Dozen™ - These are the guys you want to buy organic if you come across them at the supermarket.
Clean Fifteen™ - When organic is not possible or hard to find, you want to concentrate your shopping on these items below. I also avoid GMO products in general, so for me corn has to be organic, one of the most genetically modified crops in USA.
Now that you have memorized the list above, you might be curious to the full list of 48 products analyzed, and in the process make a small donation to EWG, which protects our interests as consumers by lobbying for regulations to be made in the field of food production and labeling.
